Harris Cleon Geninyan, 31, Liberia- Our graduate from batch 2019-2020

Harrison, a young eager and aspiring agronomist and entrepreneur holding a degree in horticulture from the university of Liberia.

Upon his return to Liberia, Harris assumed the role of Executive Director at Growing Seeds Foundation Liberia, showcasing unwavering leadership and a dedicated commitment to community service. His impactful initiatives, such as the Climate Smarts Agriculture High School, backyard Garden programs, Vegetable Farming, and farmer training spanning multiple counties, have left an indelible mark on the lives of countless smallholder farmers. Harris’s efforts have directly benefited 2,650 individuals across seven counties, encompassing a comprehensive approach that includes agricultural consultancy, farm planning, market analysis, assessments, and advisory services. In his own words, “My endeavors extend beyond mere assistance, aiming to provide holistic support to empower and uplift the agricultural community.”

He played a pioneering role in the initiation of a Mangrove Restoration Project, distinguishing himself as the first young individual to establish a Mangrove nursery. His significant contribution to conservation efforts in the Lake Piso Basin Multiple Sustainable Use Reserved sets a remarkable precedent in environmental stewardship.

In a noteworthy acknowledgment, “The Wologizi Times”, an online media outlet, extended his recognition to Harris for his outstanding contributions to the agricultural sector in Liberia. Demonstrating unwavering dedication and tenacity, Harris has emerged as a committed individual with a profound passion for sustainable development and community empowerment. “The acknowledgment by The Wologizi Times serves as a testament to my impactful presence within Liberia’s agricultural landscape. My steadfast dedication, unwavering tenacity, and fervent commitment to sustainable development and community empowerment distinguish me as a noteworthy contributor to the nation’s advancements in the agricultural sector.”

Additionally, on Sunday, January 28, 2024, he was honored with the title of Agripreneur of the Year 2023 at the esteemed Belitch Golden IMAGE Awards ceremony in Liberia.

He shares “the Agrostidies program has profoundly influenced my personal and professional development through its blend of instructional learning and practical, hands-on experiences both in the classroom and on the farm. Professionally, Agrostidies has been instrumental in shaping and enhancing my skills, contributing significantly to my proficiency in contemporary agriculture adhering to international standards. The practical knowledge acquired during the program in Israel stands out as a cornerstone of my growth. Engaging in a wide spectrum of agricultural activities, including fruit tree farming, utilization of modern irrigation technologies, plant protection methods, vegetable farming, greenhouse techniques, and involvement in dairy farming, vividly demonstrates my diverse skill set.”

Harrison’s current aspiration revolves around completing his Master’s in Plant Science. His ultimate goal is to return to Liberia and engage in contract farming with local vegetable producers. He envisions establishing a state-of-the-art vegetable packaging facility equipped with modern machinery. The aim is to significantly enhance the production and supply of high-quality fruits and vegetables to the Liberian market.
